Baguio - Cabugas Wedding

Hey, everyone, just an update. I stopped blogging last year because I didn't feel comfortable putting everyone's wedding days on the internet :) But btw, those couples gave me permission anyway.  But since this site shows up when you search "Wedding Cake Dipolog" for 5 terms in the top 10 on google, it would be a big waste to take it down. But we still serve wedding cakes. Please head over to http://www.facebook.com/pages/Couples-Cakehaus-and-Pasalubong-Dipolog/187747184571203 or www.couplescake.co.cc for pictures. We regularly check the FB page and also couplescake@yahoo.com. Or call us at (065)212-2099 or 908-2582. Thanks for your interest in getting married here in Dipolog City, and we wish you a happy marriage.
This is a new cake for me, a three tier fondant cake. One-hundred-percent super-moist chocolate cake, three layers of pure chocolate goodness.
The base of this cake is a 16 by 6in circle, over which is a 12 by 4in circle with a 6 by 3in circle upon which the bride and groom is placed. Believe me, this cake is really heavy, the bottom layer alone strained my back, I think it weighed 10-15kilos, that's just how dense the chocolate cake is. This cake was decorated/assembled starting 5:00 AM, and then delivered 2:00 PM.

This is me with Karl Baguio and Jo Ann Cabuguas - Baguio after the reception.

The reception was a blast! It was a windless, cool night up on Mt. Sinai, scarcely a breeze disturbed the drapes. The reception began with an acknowledgement of the principal sponsors for the wedding, with notables such as the Governor of Zamboanga del Norte, Rolando E. Yebes, Atty. Helen A. Angeles, (which wasn’t the first time she had encountered our cakes, but that's another story), and others. After a number of verbose speeches, it was time to eat!

Kasal sarap, indi kunti,
Pagkain dyan sari-sari,
Lechon baboy, apat malutong,
Lechong baka, bawal ang gutom!
Fried chicken, meatballs, pansit at beefsteak,
Coke't kanin, completo ang take!

(I may have forgotten one or two dishes)

The toasting for the sponsors involved several fine wines, and the wine for the bride and groom was a martini.
A live acoustic band provided for Quines Studio played for the wedding, a few modern love songs and they also played for the ballroom dancing after the reception.
Ambibo.com provided the photography and video coverage.

I really enjoyed the whole reception, and enjoyed slicing and serving the cake to an appreciative crowd. Karl and Jo Anne were very appreciative and made serving them a pleasantry.

Karl Baguio in a text message the day after the wedding: "Hi mam! Ü nag enjoy jud amng guest last nyt sa kalami sa cake. Thank u!"

Another cake another time, I see cake all the time,
And while it's there, I'll be waiting.

I thought I'd spice up this post with couplets, so here goes:

On the twenty-eighth of May,
A couple joined their way,
They were man and wife,
And will have a single life,
From that self-same day.

At a Farm Royal, they went,
When religious ceremony was spent,
And celebration due.

'Twas a color of blood,
A shade of color fine,
Reminding of the promises made, from the single "I do," line
The reception theme no ordinary,
For it was the shade of a shiny Ferrari!
(seriously, it was Ferrari Red)

Crimson petals on the pink,
Quite elegant, I'd think.
Sixteen mini cakes surround,
The three main hills abound.
Inches six, in all the height,
Making cake a main delight,
Six, nine, and twelve across,
Icing never is at loss.
May "wine," so sweet, and bitterness none,
Used for sipping and was quickly done.
The candle of union, so well lit,
Was done after a little bit.

The reception done and I've had my fill,
I'd talked to the EMCEE's who lingered there still.
Two were there but one was of note,
Benette Jan Javier-Comodas, was a Dumaguete DJ, quote, unquote.
We got to talking, and soon I found, another contact for weddings,
Some here and some around.
I gave her a sample of our cake fare,
And bid her good day, and left some cards there.

Now my tale is near done, but I missed but one fact,
The groom's name was Julius, and Sheena the bride,
His surname Ordinaria, and hers was Zamora.
Now if you find this little post amusing, please dispense with tact.
Comment below, and make friends attract.

But seriously, I think, the organization was fair,
And improvement was needed on the orderly flair.
Benette did perform, her task quite well.
Ad-lib kept the ball rolling, and success was there.
I suppose bashfulness kept the bridesmaids away,
For the game that was played, the roses were thrown,
But few hands caught it, and the game was soon blown.
The garter fared worse, with not much giving a care.
But anyway, free will was the right of a guest.
But so far on a scale, with ten as the best,
I'll give this a seven, and you, judge the rest.

May 22, 2010, another Saturday, and a another wedding for the blog (grins).

Well, the story of this cake began months back, when we had just finished making a contact of Socorro's Bridal Shop, two couples walked into our cakehouse. It turned out that they had also been at Socorro's at the same time!

I was assigned receptionist to Ramil Embodo and Geraldine Romasasa, and closed a deal(with help from Mom) for Php 7,000 (minus delivery and minicake charges). The location was out of town, but very nice for a reception hall.

For more information about the location, see my post about Legara's Function Hall.

We arrived at exactly 10:00 AM at Legara's Function Hall and began to set up the cake. Took about 20-30 minutes and then Mom and Dad left to prepare a follow-up order of mini-cakes.

I caught sight of the bride as she came in...she was very glad to see us.

The wedding went as well as could be, and everyone had a good time. I distributed the minicakes, and guided the cake slicing and the wine sipping.

The meal was very good, supplied by Legara's own GR catering service, four main courses, salad and softdrink.

Personal thoughts: I think it was good, a new thing for me. To be honest, I didn't think the town of Pres. M.A. Roxas had that elegant a reception hall in them, since it's a rather sleepy town from past experince. I'm glad to realize that there is more to this town than meets the eye.

I make it a habit to get contact details from every venue we serve cakes for, but so far, only Royal Farm has a complete listing of their services. Strangely, I couldn't find a price list on their Multiply site.

Here is a complete rundown of Royal Farm services as of the May 17,2010 handout.

Bamboo Garden

Author: ViolisimoFernando // Category: , , , ,
Today, we served another wedding cake for a couple named Orlando and Sharon at Bamboo Garden, Dipolog. The reception was very traditional, beginning with a grand entrance by the bride and groom with their entourage, followed by the cake slicing, wine sipping, dove releasing, and then the meal, followed by table hopping by the  bride and groom. Advice was given by parents of the newlyweds and the sponsors and then it was over quickly, and I went home...
Bamboo Garden is a traditional reception hall with designs hearkening back to the Chinese-Spanish era, complete with chandeliers and a red carpet design using floor tiles. Bamboo Garden also has its own catering service, which I sampled during the wedding reception. Bamboo Garden Catering service provided several good choices of food, rice, ham, fish fillet, Filipino-style macaroni, and two kinds of dessert cake served in cupcake paper cups.

The wedding cake provided by Couple's Cakehaus Worry Free Package cost exactly 7,000 Php, setup, lighting, delivery and slicing inclusive, non-inclusive of the mini cakes which cost 95 Php per piece, free use of cake slicer and wineglass set and bride and groom statuette., and fountain. The cakes are in the following dimensions: Left largest, 14 in diameter, middle, 9 in diameter, and smallest, 6 in diameter, all 6 inches high. The flavors are, moist coffee chiffon for the largest and smallest cake, and super-melt-in-your-mouth moist chocolate for the middle largest. In the setup, the fountain would have been included if the table provided was large enough.

Pros: Excellent service by the Bamboo Garden staff.
BG staff were quick to serve and respond. In a water test(request for a glass of water) it took only 24.6 seconds for them to provide it. The place has a decent area, and is located within the city, meaning it only takes one fare from the church or bus terminal to get there.
